Does God expect us to forgive ourselves for our trespasses? Did the prodigal son forgive himself for his trespasses? It seems to me that he may have since he joined the party that his father gave for him. Did Peter forgive himself for denying Jesus three times? Did Judas forgive himself for betraying Jesus?
